Do you know what isn’t fun? Not knowing the best way to pack dishes and opening what you thought was a carefully packed box of kitchenware, only to find that your cups and plates didn’t make the trip.
That wonderful bowl you picked up on vacation overseas didn’t survive either. Bummer. At A Mother’s Touch Movers, we know how frustrating it can be to discover that your belongings didn’t make the move intact. We’ve seen it happen all too often. Let’s take a look at the best way to store your dishes so they make it to your final destination in one piece.
Best Ways to Pack Dishes
-
Skip additional room
While extra space is great for your kitchen, you want to avoid any additional space when packing dishes. Why? Because the more room the dishes have to rattle about in on a road trip, the more likely they are to crash into one another. Keep space at bay with proper packing supplies.
-
Don’t skimp on packing supplies
You will need some additional supplies apart from the traditional packing boxes and tape to get the job done right here (and create a more compact space as we talked about above).
We suggest that you begin with dish boxes. These are specifically designed for dishes so you are already one step ahead. They have designated slots for your wares and are slightly thicker making them a sturdier choice for your fine china. Purchase packing paper and, if you have any, spare towels and strips of soft fabric.

Pack dishes strategically in layers
Now that you have your supplies at hand, assemble the dish boxes, and tape them down securely. Next up, crumple up packing paper and place it in the bottom of the box. This will create a safety layer for your dishes.
Once these steps are complete, take your time wrapping each individual dish with wrapping paper and place them into the correct slot. After you have done this for each dish and the box is complete, add another layer of crumpled packing paper on top for added security.
